Geocache Description:

The second in a mini series of caches dedicated to one of my favourite groups. The line is from a song called Dancing Days (are here again) and it’s about the return of summer/the good times. The line from the song is really surreal and is much talked about on forums etc. Maybe you’ve got a theory about what it means?

Tentative link; lion, Samson, Samson’s Rock standing alone…

Tradition has it that Samson had a habit of putting large rocks around the countryside when he was bored and this is one such rock. The boring version is that this is a large glacial erratic.

You can park at the Bochastle car park, it’s closer than the Kilmahog parking and saves you crossing the road. There is no path up the hill I’m afraid and at the time of placing the cache the hill was a sea of ferns, whoopee! The head height ferns are a pain but there is lots of wild life under the ferns including some late flowering bluebells and other flowers. Take care, I nearly trod on a birds nest and wear sturdy long trousers as you may also come across nettles and thistles. It may be worth following the path along the A821 and looking up at the rock then you can plan some sort of easy route. Alternatively come at a time of year when there are no ferns!

Take care not to lean on the rock too hard, it looks very precariously balanced.

I couldn’t hide the cache under the rock as it would have been too conspicuous but it’s only about 10 m away.

If you feel a bit more energetic you could visit the site of the Pictish hill fort on the adjacent Dunmore Hill.
