Geocache Description:

Based in the small village of Rockbourne north west of Fordingbridge. The start of the walk is from the public house The rose and Thistle. This is not suitable for wheelchairs and does involve a couple of steep hills. Please keep to the footpaths and keep dogs and children under control!

Please only park at the pub if you intend to use their facilities as the car park is small.

The pub is at N50.57.896 W1.50.420 the car park is around the back to the left. Take care when you leave the pub as no footpath on side of road. Turn left and proceed to the sports ground.

This is the alternative parking area N50.57.948 W1.50.573 space for several cars though at times it is obviously busy.

From here walk up the track past “Mushroom Farm” all the way to a large green gate. The footpath goes around the left of this gate and then bears right don’t go over the style unless you want to give up already and go to the pub!

The footpath then turns left up the hill. You want to be on the right hand side of the fence.
When you get to the top take time to look around. To your left is a little visited Trig point which you can reach by going down the slope and then doubling back on yourself.
The footpath follows the fenceline, please don’t go across the field it doesn’t save much time.

Take time to stop when you get near the cache at the gate. To your north is the location of an ancient hill fort. I think I may have heard a nightingale in the woods. Swifts flying all over the place and some good shots of a buzzard.

The cache is near to the path. You are looking for a 2.4lt plastic container spray painted black.

You then have several options. Return to the pub the way you came or take a longer circular route.

As an alternative parking, starting point if you're worried about crossing the field go to N50.56.918 W1.51.295. A longer walk but avoiding fields. :)
