BBB Library is the former Jewish temple, which
became the library named after Bedrich Benes Buchlovan - a writer,
poet, translator, bibliophile, librarian and local historian.
Jewish synagogue was built in 1875 and served as
the place of liturgy of the large Jewish community until WW2. On 22
June 1941 the building was attacked by Gestapo and local members of
Vlajka (Flag) and was totally looted. The interior, organ, lustre,
the divine service equipment, registers and Jewish emblems were
destroyed. The ransacked building was poured on with petrol and put
on fire. Since the attempt to burn down the building failed, it was
repeated on 12 August. As firemen were banned from putting out the
fire, the ransacked synagogue became a ruin. In November the ruins
were bought out by town council for 30.000 crowns and destined for
demolition.
After WW2 a decision was made not to pull the
building down but to reconstruct it as a cultural centre - the seat
of Moravian Slovak philharmonic orchestra, chorus Svatopluk and
public library. The reconstruction was realized mainly due to the
efforts of the members of the above mentioned institutions. The
public library was opened in September 1951 and resided on the
ground floor.
The original interior of the synagogue is
represented only by supporting ornamented cast-iron pillars.
On 7 March 1966 the building burnt down. In the
following two years the synagogue underwent another reconstruction
and since that time the public library has been the user of the
whole building. The ground floor was flooded and the building
suffered substantial damage during massive floods in July 1997.
Therefore another reconstruction of interior has been carried out
between the years of 1998 and 1999. From 8 November 1999 the
library again supplies its library services.
In 1999 the building of the former synagogue was
proclaimed a Cultural Heritage Site. In September 2002
reconstruction of the facade has been finished. The facade is now
bearing original colour and partly restored ornamental details.
And in 2004 the dome was rebuilt to reclaim
temples' complete original look.

Knihovna BBB je bývalá židovská synagoga, která
se stala knihovnou, pojmenovanou po Bedrichu Beneši Buchlovanovi -
spisovateli a básníkovi, prekladateli, bibliofilovi, knihovníkovi a
vlastivednému pracovníkovi.
Židovská synagoga byla postavena v roce 1875 a
sloužila bohoslužebným úcelum pocetné židovské obce až do druhé
svetové války. Dne 22. cervna 1941 byla budova prepadena skupinou
gestapa a místních clenu Vlajky a totálne zdemolována. Zasvé vzalo
veškeré vnitrní vybavení, varhany, krištálový lustr, bohoslužebné
náciní, matriky, otluceny byly židovské symboly. Trosky byly polity
benzínem a zapáleny, ale protože se nepodarilo celou budovu
vypálit, žhárský pokus byl zopakován 12. srpna. Hasicským sborum
nebylo povoleno horící budovu hasit, a tak vydrancovaná synagoga
zustala v ruinách. V listopadu téhož roku tyto ruiny zakoupilo
mesto za 30.000 korun a urcilo je ke zbourání.
Po druhé svetové válce bylo rozhodnuto, že
budova bude místo zbourání zrekonstruována jako kulturní dum.
Sídlit zde mela Slovácká filharmonie, pevecké sdružení Svatopluk a
verejná knihovna. Rekonstrukci provedli brigádnicky clenové techto
organizací. Verejná knihovna zabírala prízemí budovy a byla
otevrena v zárí 1951.
Z puvodního interiéru synagogy se dochovaly
pouze zdobené nosné litinové sloupy.
Dne 7. brezna 1966 celá budova vyhorela. V
následujících dvou letech podstoupila další rekonstrukci a od této
doby všechny její prostory slouží výhradne verejné knihovne. Behem
nicivých povodní v cervenci 1997 bylo prízemí knihovny zaplaveno
vodou a celá budova utrpela znacné škody. V letech 1998-1999 z
tohoto duvodu podstoupila rekonstrukci interiéru.Od 8. listopadu
1999 opet slouží ctenárum.
Na sklonku roku 1999 byla budova synagogy
prohlášena nemovitou kulturní památkou. V zárí 2002 byla dokoncena
rekonstrukce fasády, která nyní nese puvodní barvu a cástecne
obnovené ozdobné prvky.
A v roce 2004 byla dostavena kopule, která
obnovila puvodní vzhled synagogy.
