This cache is for boats. Mostly for kayaks and canoes but you could reach it with power boats.
There are several different places you can access the river to reach McKay's Island. The cache is on the north part of the island. Approach the island on the eastern side for the best landing spots for kayaks. I have put a couple of geocoins in there for the first few people to find. Also some other various swag for the taking.
This is a difficult cache for this area. The island is very grown up with thorns, poison plants, ticks, etc... Getting a good signal can be hard under the thick canopy of trees. I recommend long pants and boots when seeking this cache. It will take at least a 2 hours roundtrip to complete this cache. The hide is not so difficult but getting to the spot can be a challenge.
Hope you enjoy the area. This whole section of the Cape Fear River from Jordan Lake down to Fayetteville makes for excellent kayaking and some nice weekend trips.
