La Curva di Cencione
Questa cache è legata ad un episodio di brigantaggio del secolo scorso. Gaspare Lapi, detto “Cencione” per la sua mole, tornava sul suo cavallo da Marradi a Ronta quella sera del 29 Maggio 1874, in una tasca portava i pochi soldi del guadagno di quel giorno di mercato. Giunto in prossimità del Passo della Colla di Casaglia, ad una curva, fu affrontato, derubato e ucciso in un agguato. La cosa fece molto scalpore, vicino al corpo gironzolava un cane: era il cane dei fratelli Pieri che abitavano al Passo della Colla. Del delitto furono incolpati i due fratelli che erano assolutamente innocenti. Non erano tempi di garantismo, nonostante non fossero stati trovati ne’ l’arma del delitto, ne’ i soldi, i due fratelli vennero condannati a 20 anni e rinchiusi nel carcere delle Murate a Firenze. Il minore dei due fratelli si ammalò e la moglie due volte al mese andava a trovarlo A PIEDI e a piedi tornava. Tra andata e ritorno erano un centinaio di chilometri, finché il giovane morì. Anche l’altro fratello stava per fare la stessa fine, ma c’è alfine una giustizia, una sera in una osteria di Marradi un certo Stoppa, fama di fannullone e attaccabrighe, già sbronzo, minacciò un avventore dicendogli: "Bada che lo schioppo che ha ammazzato Cencione ce l’ho ancora!” Furono chiamati i Carabinieri e Stoppa confessò il suo delitto, di cui forse sentiva il rimorso; fu arrestato e condannato e il fratello superstite liberato, ma due innocenti avevano pagato con la vita. I briganti dell’800 avevano un loro codice d’onore e raramente uccidevano le vittime, vedi il famoso Passatore (su questa strada a Maggio si corre la 100 km del Passatore); Stoppa era più un rubagalline da strapazzo che un brigante, forse uccise perché da Cencione era stato riconosciuto. Questa storia veniva spesso raccontata sulle piazze dei paesi nei giorni di mercato dai cantastorie, c’era un certo Gabbanino che con la sua fisarmonica sapeva catturare l’attenzione dei presenti e muoverli fino alle lacrime; dell’episodio resta, sulla statale Brisighellese-Ravennate, una croce di ferro nel punto del delitto alla curva detta per questo “La Curva di Cencione” ed un cartello malandato. La croce è arrugginita, anche il cartello è finito nel dimenticatoio dell’Anas, la fisarmonica di Gabbanino tace per sempre, ma ho voluto ricordare questa storia, perché questo ricordo viva, un ricordo che commosse e commuove ancora le genti del Mugello e della Romagna.
Al passo della Colla c’è il Ristorante La Griglia d’Oro, dove si mangia bene, qui si sposano cucina toscana e romagnola, qui confluiscono tortelli e ribollita, cotechino e bistecche, funghi a volontà quando è stagione, dolci fatti in casa, tutto annaffiato da Chianti e Sangiovese (cosa volete ancora?). Per chi vuole farsi un panino/piadina e una birra c’è l’imbarazzo della scelta.
Questa cache è dedicata anche agli “smanettoni”, ai patiti delle due ruote. Il Passo della Colla è il punto di ritrovo dei motociclisti che vengono dalla Toscana e soprattutto dalla Romagna, vera patria del “mutòr”. Quando il “team vericol” era ancora composto da solo due componenti venivamo spesso in moto, anche d’inverno, anzi il 1° Gennaio venire quassù e ritrovarsi era quasi un rito: birre, grappini (per me un tè caldo) pacche sulle spalle, e via, si ritornava giù, ognuno dal suo versante, incuranti del freddo, per queste vecchie strade che ad ogni curva raccontano un storia.
This cache remebers an episode of robbery of the past century. Gaspare Lapi, known as “Cencione” (big rack) for his big body, was going back home on his horse from Marradi to Ronta that evening of May 29th, 1874; in a pocket he had the lean income of that market day. As he was at a curve near the Pass of La Colla was faced, robbed and killed in an ambush. That episode made a lot of rumors, near the body roamed a dog, it was the dog of the Pieri brothers who lived at the pass. The murder was attributed to the Pieri brothers who were absolutely innocent. Those weren’t time of great respect of civil rights, and although there was no evidence, the two brothers were recognized as guilty, and condemned to 20 years of prison in the florentine jail “Le Murate”. The minor of the two brothers felt in illness and his wife used go twice in a month from the pass of La Colla to Florence and back on foot. The round trip was about 100 km, but the brother get worse and died. The other brother too was in bad condition but there is a justice for everybody: in a cove of Marradi a man called “Stoppa”, famous as a beggar and always ready to pick a quarrel, already drunk, threatened another customer saying: “Be aware that I have still the gun that fired Cencione!” The Carabineri were called and Stoppa admitted his murder, maybe in remorse. Stoppa was arrested and condemned, and the survived brother freed; but two innocents were died in the meanwhile. The brigands of the ‘800 had their own honour code and seldom they killed their victims, see the famous brigand “Il Passatore”. Stoppa was almost a pilferer than a real brigand, maybe he killed because was recognized by Cencione. This story was often told by the ballad singers in the villages during market days; one of them, named “Gabbanino”, with his accordion was able to move people to tears; of this episode remains, on the road “Brisighellese-Ravennate” an iron cross at the curve (named for this Cencione’s Curve) in the murder place and a broken signal. About the cross, nobody cares more of it, the signal has been forgotten, the accordion of Gabbanino is silent forever, but I wanted to remember this story, a story which moves and still moves people of Mugello and Romagna.
At La Colla Pass there is the restaurant La griglia d’Oro (The Golden Grill), were on serve good food, here you find both cuisine of Tuscany and Romagna, here join tortelli and ribollita, cotechino and steaks, mushrooms of the season, home-made cakes, everything blessed by Chianti and Sangiovese (you want more?). If you like to have sandwiches or piadinas with a beer you have only to ask for it.
This cache is dedicated also to the moto fans, because this is a famous meeting point for bikers coming from Tuscany and especially Romagna, the home of “mutòr”. When the vericol team was made by only two components we oftem came here, even in winter, and the 1st of January to come here was a sort of ritual: beers, snaps (for me a hot tea), slaps on the shoulders and after back everyone by his side, cold careless, on these old routes that at every curve tell a story.
