GHOST TRAIN Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

MeerRescue: After the last DNF we can confirm the cache has been stolen, although all the camo has been placed back neatly. [:(!] As Easry Cache Bandit would probably confirm, this last hiding place was just not going to be found by accident. As it's obviously being targeted we've decided to archive it. Many thanks to all who have visited.

Geocache Description:

This multi cache is set between the villages of Coldred and
Eythorne. The cache is hidden off a footpath which was once the
branch line of the East Kent Light Railway to the Guilford
Colliery.

The East Kent Light Railway was built by Colonel HF Stephens between 1911 and 1917. Its purpose was to serve the growing number of coal mines being sunk in East Kent by linking the colliery’s with the South Eastern and Chatham Railway mainline at Shepherdswell and the then new and prospering Port Richborough. Guilford Colliery, also know as Waldershare Colliery, after the Earl of Guilford who lived at nearby Waldershare Park and whose family have owned the manor of Coldred since 1790

Work was started at Guilford Colliery in 1906 by Mr.Arthur Burr, but due to constant flooding and without coal ever being mined commercially, work ceased in 1910. This was to be an omen, as Kent coal was some of the most difficult coal to extract and hence became the most expensive coal mined in the UK.

The nearby East Kent Light Railway is still running trains (non-electric) on a renovated 4 mile return trip between Shepherdswell and Eythorne, and whilst searching for this cache, you may see or hear the trains pass you nearby. You will see a number of the original ‘sleepers’ are still evident on the route to the cache

You will need to visit an old but vital structure of Guilford Colliery to obtain clues as to the location of a micro-cache hidden at N 51 11.ABC, E 001 15.DEF.

What is the name of the structure found at N 51 10.540 E 001 15.779. ? (This has recently been restored as a private dwelling –please respect this)
If A=1 and Z=26

Total of word 1 = A& B

This area is frequented by Muggles and MuggleMutts of all ages, so please use all of your cacher’s skills to re-hide the cache and ensure it is not visible when you leave i.e. a pile of sticks.

For those who wish it a ‘circular’ walk back can be had by continuing through the woods and across the field (FP 346) to a single track way (FP EE345B). Turn right and follow signs till intersecting with Bridleway EE347 and this will lead you back to the start of the Ghost Train walk.
