The cache is just a short ramble along the side of the River Leete in the small village of Rydymwyn. The road is very narrow but there is a lay-by available for parking at N53.11.448 W003.12.076.
The area is heavily wooded so co-ordinates may be compromised.
It is hard to imagine as you wander through this peaceful wooded area with wild flowers, a babbling river and birds singing above, that close by (in fact you probably drove past the entrance) that a government owned site here made and stored chemicals used as weapons during the World War II.
In 1939, with WWII looming, the government decided to build an overground and underground munitions factory in the Rhydymwyn valley where it could function in secret.
Rydymwyn Valley Site now owned by DEFRA (Department of Environment, Food & Rural Affairs) and North East Wales Wildlife, is finally open to the public having been kept a secret for many years. Visitors can explore the site where a staggering 4.7 mustard gas shells were made and stored. Visits are only by arrangement at present
Whilst the cache is not hidden in part of the Rydymwyn Valley site, it is close by so please keep to the footpath and do not pick any of the wild flowers or remove anything from area. We were assured on our visit to the site that water purity level is well within safe limits!
The cache is a small tupperware container that contains a variety of small items including a first-to-find pin badge.
PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU SIGN THE LOGBOOK WHEN YOU FIND THIS CACHE. WE WILL DELETE ANY LOGS WHERE THIS REQUIREMENT HAS NOT BEEN MET AS IT IS THE PROOF THAT YOU HAVE FOUND IT.
