Hidden away in the mountainous Lake District. Great care must be taken while navigating. The less confident navigator may find it better to hunt on a good day. Always bring a map, compass, waterproofs and plenty of food!
This cache is hidden near the summit of Swirl How. Walkers from Wetherlam may notice in the valley to their right are a few pieces of metal. Some more can be seen on the Broad Slack scree slope. These can also be seen from the summits of Swirl How and Great Carrs. These metal pieces are in fact the remains of a Halifax Bomber which crashed into Great Carr (NY270009, South West Lakes, OS Explorer OL6) on 20th October 1944. A memorial is placed at the crash site with wreckage arranged around a cairn. It is well worth visiting the memorial while visiting the cache as it is very close. Please do not remove any wreckage.
It is important to be prepared for all types of weather as the mountains here can become dangerous and difficult to navigate through if the cloud level drops, as it often does! Keep geokids under control as cliffs are always nearby.
The cache is small (an old hot chocolate tub) so please don't expect to fit fully grown dinosaurs inside.
Respect the mountains - take your rubbish home and bury your orange peel!
