Geocache Description:

A short circular walk of around 1 mile in and around the Elvetham Heath Nature Reserve

All walking is on flat gravel paths with no need to leave them at at any point until the final cache position which is within 20 feet. Although there are some trees the signal is good and the clue positions are obvious.

In 2001/02 during the building of the prestigious Elvetham Heath housing development, a new 48-acre nature reserve was created, aimed at enhancing habitats such as heath and marsh land where valuable wildlife communities can develop over the longer term. Public access through the reserve is via a series of clearly marked paths providing short and long circular walks and taking visitors through all of the main habitat types. The associated birds, animals and plants can be identified with the aid of helpful interpretation boards.

The waypoint above relates to Stage 1 at the start of the Nature Reserve Walk beside the pond. The recommended parking is nearby to a pub and supermarket approx 0.25 mile from the start of the walk. Do not worry if you feel you are in the middle of a large housing estate – you are !! The Heath is behind all the houses and is not accessible directly by car. The terrain is flat but not suitable fro wheelchairs and larger pushchairs as there are a number of Kissing Gates. The Clue places are very (very) obvious and there is absolutely no need to ever leave the defined paths. Even the final cache position is only 20 feet away from the path.

The location of the cache is...

DUE TO SOME OF THE SIGNS BEING MISSING THE FINAL LOCATION IS AT

Willow and Birch like soggy conditions as does one other plant. The number of letters in the name of this plant gives you A.

Now you should have all the information you need to make it to the cache, which is a 1.5L clear container. Once there you will find various goodies. To return head back to the first waypoint – note there is a different route which takes you back to the pond so you get to see the whole reserve.
