Geocache Description:

Leading you to a stunning panorama

The limestone rocks in this area of the Ardennes forces the Ourthe river to make a number of hairpin bends. The hills surrounding the Ourthe Valley offer stunning panoramic viewpoints. One of the well-known ones is Le Hérou (where a cache is already hidden). However, the view from Le Hérou isn't always easy to appreciate when flocks of tourists surround you.

This cache is hidden near Le Cheslé, a lesser-known but not less breathtaking panorama point just a few hills further in the direction of La Roche. Le Cheslé is believed to be one of the oldest Celtic settlements in this part of Europe, currently being restaurated (at a pace which will make the restaurations themselves historic as well).

If you come by car, park at N50'10.532 E005'39.583. Follow your GPS, walking down to the end of the "peninsula". The Ourthe river can be seen on both sides. The walk on the left hand side will take you over some challenging rock formations (slippery when wet) and is by far the most beautiful (with several panoramic viewpoints). Children should be accompanied by adults.

Finding the cache will lead you to a stunning panorama. The cache contains a disposable camera - please take a picture of yourself (just one please), enter your email adress in the log and I will email you the picture later on.

If you have some time, why not continue your journey all the way down to the Ourthe River - a nice picknick spot along the river awaits you. If you don't want to go as far as that, just go a bit further (past the restaurations), and follow the path making a right turn - to return via the other (easy) side of the peninsula. This will lead you to a bench with another nice view towards the Ourthe.

The return trip takes you from 260m above sea level back up to 390!. Don't under-estimate this climb!

I hope you enjoy the ardennes, look forward to your comments.
