Geocache Description:

This cache is stashed on top of Bald Eagle Mountain very close to Tyrone. The name of the cache pretty much says it all. You can see the towers from pretty much anywhere and so you have a good landmark to follow.

The terrain is VERY tough and this cache should be attempted by only those who can physically meet the challenge. It is stashed all the way to the very top and the going is steep and in many places quite rocky. Long pants and hiking boots are suggested as well as a walking stick. It is also a good idea to bring water as it's a long way up and back down again. Beware of snakes and the occasional porcupine as we ran into a huge one the day we hid this cache. The mountain is beautiful as well as the view from the top so this cache is well worth the time to find it. The cache itself is a large, clear plastic container with a white lid. We started it off with a number of small childrens toys and of course a logbook and some pens and a pencil. Again, use the towers as a guide...if you can reach the towers you can find the cache. I hope you have fun and enjoy finding this one. Again, please only attempt this one if you are physically fit as it's not an easy one! The elevation of the cache is 1720 feet. I have included a disposable camera to the cache contents. Please don't take the camera! LOL However, please do take a photo of yourselves once you find the cache and once the film is used up I will recover the camera and develop the film and post the pics on the website. So, if you take the last picture please let me know! Thank you and happy caching! (Additional note added on 5/14/06- It seems that from reading the posts here that the posted coordinates may be in question. I'm fairly certain the coords are very accurate as I allowed my GPS unit to average for 30 minutes on the cache site before recording them. I think BuckD may have nailed it when he said he thought perhaps interferance from the power lines or the towers themselves may be the culprit. I will hike back up to the cache in the next day or so to re-verify the coords. In the meantime if you attempt this cache please bring a copy of the web page in case you need to decrypt the clue. Thank you!)

!!! UPDATE !!! 8 Nov 09 - Today we did some long overdue maintenance on this cache. It is now a green ammo box rather than the original plastic container. We removed the old logbook and replaced with a new one. We also stashed a small first aid kit in there as well in case anyone needs it. Took the camera as it was full and will soon develope the pictures and post them on the site. I ask that someone who next visits the cache might leave a pencil please? There are only pens in it right now and I'm afraid they might freeze and be useless in the colder months. I forgot to take one today. Thank you!
