Thirty-three kilometres east of the Chinese city of Xi’an you will find a sight of magnificent magnitude. Partially uncovered, there lies an army of 8099 terra cotta life-size soldiers. Some are found on horseback, others kneeling and some manning chariots. All are completely unique in appearance and facial expression. This incredible work of art was built by the first Emperor of Qin, Qin Shi Huang, between 210 and 209 BC. The emperor believed that the terra-cotta warriors would protect him after his death. The collection of soldiers was housed in separate pits, and protected by vast wooden structures. Imagine that - 8099 unique facial expressions!

Start your journey at a junction to be found at S34°06.787 E018°26.079 and follow the path away from China. Along this route you will discovers not just soldiers and horses, but also lions and ships and whales and dragons. These have nothing to do with emperors or even the Chinese. Instead these sandstone creatures and figurines were carefully sculpted by rain and wind. Meander through this incredible collection (before the tour buses discover them!) and allow your imagination to run away. There are many nooks and crannies to shelter from the sun and wind and enjoy a picnic. Follow the cairns and amble in a westerly direction to another junction at S34°06.785 E018°26.029, then follow your GPS to the cache (placed at coordinates listed above). You will find enough rocks to hop your way to the cache without disturbing the flora.
The cache is below a kneeling-warrior-sized rock, next to a protea bush.
