Take the route 21 from Hatvan to Salgotarjan. At village of Tar when reaching the fork toward Samsonháza turn to left and you immediately find Stupa's car park. Trailhead to the cache: N47 57.821 E16 44.712 just behind the stupa
Stupas are buddhist shrines,which are common in Far East but only a few are found in Europe. There are two stupas in Hungary and both were built in early 90-s. This stupa is close to Tar village in the northen part of Hungary while the other one is built in western part of the country ( you can find a cache there too which is reported to geocaching.com as Stupa, GC8C26). Stupa of Tar was visited by Dalai Lama in '93 who dedicated it to the bodhisattva of the western world Sándor Körösi Csoma. (Bodhisattva refers to a honored person who helps other people to reach nirvana). Körösi Csoma was actually a famous Hungarian traveller and scientist. Körösi's bibliography He was born in 1784 in Körös (Csomakörös) village in Transsylvania (now Chiurus, Romania). His dream was to discover the roots of Hungarian tribes which he supposed to be found in Central Asia. He travelled to North India and Tibet with great difficulties because of the lack of money. He studied Tibetian language and culture there. In 1830 he got financial support from British Bengal Society and he could finish his books on Tibetian grammar and Tibetian English vocabulary. These works are the keystones to oriental linguistics and presented Tibet to the European community. Korosi Csoma died in 1842 at Darjeeling, India, where his grave can be seen till now.
