Geocache Description:

Note that the description and location of final have changed slightly (July 15), mostly because of replacement information boards at Garden Organic.

The coordinates given are for the entrance to the car park of Garden Organic Ryton, normally open from 7:30 am until 7:00 pm every day of the week. It is recommended that the cache is attempted within these hours, as there is limited other parking in the vicinity, and please note that the gates are locked overnight.

Garden Organic is the working name of the Henry Doubleday Research Association (HDRA). It is a registered charity, and Europe's largest organic membership organisation. It is dedicated to researching and promoting organic gardening, farming and food. Ryton Gardens, as it was formerly known, is one of two organic display gardens operated by the organisation. See (visit link) for further information.

Thank you to Garden Organic for allowing us to use the car park and on-site facilities, including toilets and a café/restaurant (though there is no longer a shop). The opening hours are 10am until 5pm - note there is a charge to visit the Gardens.

On to the cache. This is an offset cache, with a round trip walk of less than 1 mile, starting at the entrance to the car park.

Look at one of the information boards either side of the entrance.

A – How many acres?
B – ....... in Horticulture. Number of letters in missing word.
C – The word after George. Number of letters.
D – Bottom line. How many words?

Now look nearby;
E - How many flagpoles?

Cross the road (with care) and look for the footpath a few metres to the right.
Go to N 52 22.(C-D)(A+E)(D) W 001 25.(D-A)(B)(B-E)

Look here for a pole with a white marker (single digit number, F). Just beyond that, a new path crossing with a handrail either side. Count the number of vertical posts on either handrail (G).

Onwards to find the cache at N 52 22.(G-E)(F)(B-E) W 001 25.(E)(F-A)(D+G).

Take care in this area, as you’ll be very close to the River Avon. You can return by the same route, or extend to a short circular walk on other local footpaths. Since the cache was placed, work has started on the excavation of a 200+ acre sand and gravel pit on the site of Wolston Fields Farm. This will dramatically change the landscape, but should lead to the creation of 'ponds and a floodplain forest landscape with lakes connected to the river'. Footpaths in the area should be fully restored and even improved.

This is the 14th in a series of caches created by ‘A Coventry Way Association’. The association was formed to promote a long distance footpath, A Coventry Way, and to support local authorities in the path’s maintenance. Our primary aim was to encourage people to discover and use the local countryside. A book of 21 Circular Walks was produced, broadly based on the main walk. Our plan is to set out a series of caches, located on or near each of the 21 walks. See (visit link) for further information.

The cache is a small lock & lock-style container. It is located somewhere just off A Coventry Way footpath; this is also part of walk 9. The original FTF was able to grab a complimentary copy of the 21 Walks book.
