The Lacy Geocachers (
Allen,
Johnnie, and
Robert) along with
Nasty George decided that this area needed a geocache with a
nice hike. Besides we had never been here before. The
geocache is near the sign on the AT which marks the state border
between Georgia and North Carolina. Now this sign was placed
a long time before GPS were available, so it is about 1/10 of mile
in North Carolina.
You can start on the Appalachian Trail either in North Carolina
at Deep Gap on Forest Service 71, or in Georgia at Dicks Creek Gap
on GA 76. Both have parking. Both routes require a significant
hike, with a lot of elevation change. Also there are a lot
of “top-teasers.” You know what I mean. Every time you think
you have FINALLY reached the top, the trail veers off in another
direction and UP!
Note the parking waypoints are offical AT trailheads marked on
their maps.
