The above coordinates are not to the cache, but to alternate parking. To find the cache you must calculate a great circle route from the preferred parking area at the east end of Indian School near the Sandia Foothills to find the cache.
A great circle a curved line on the surface of the Earth. That line and the center of the Earth lie in the same plane. The shortest distance between two points on the Earth lies along a great circle. No need to worry about changing bearings over short distances. My favorite great circle calculator is at williams great circle calculator. I’ve used this site frequently to discover certain stashes. After doing your homework with the data below, you should have the cache coords to 3 or 4 significant digits.
Begin at the Indian School parking lot at N35º 5.943 and W106º 28.800. Start your great circle on a bearing of 71º 44’45” true. Go a distance of 2808’ and 5”. (Using UTM coords will put you around 50’ off.) Choose your actual route to cause the least impact on the environment.
The cache elevation is about 6600’. The cache contains a First to Find prize which has been passed on by each first finder to a New Sandia Foothills cache. This prize is on its fourth hide since April 2005. Are you ready to carry on that tradition?
