Accessible on foot from Pécsvárad and Hosszúhetény on the tourist path marked (Sárga sáv) yellow.
There is beautiful view to the hills from the surveying measurement tower on the summit.
You can see even lake Balaton in clear weather.

ZENGO Zengo was called "Vas-hegy" (Iron-hill) in the Middle Ages.
If there is a storm by the Adriatic Sea the whole hill roars - the ancestry says. (Zengo means 'roaring' in Hungarian.)
By the legend the Zengo forest roars because it cries together that poor woman who left his child because of treasures found in a cave.
The concrete measurement tower was built in 1978 and functions as a look-out, as well.
You can see ruins of a castle on the top. There is no written documents about them. The round old tower (approx. 10 m diameter) surrounded by trench and wall and other buildings very likely remained for the posterity from the 12th century.

THE TREASURE OF ZENGO A shepherd with his wife and son lived at the foot of Zengo in a valley. The woman wanted to mingle with people but the poverty forced them to this place.
Once the spirit of the hill revealed that the side of Zengo opened on each Palm Sunday for silent women and showed his countless treasures. The woman walked up to the top of Zengo on Palm Sunday with his son in her arms. As soon as the hermit's voice sounded from the valley, the hill opened.
The spirit lured the surprised woman into the cave. She was very confused seeing the lot of treasures and put down her son to gather the jewels. She took out the valuables but when she returned to her son the hill was shut. And the disturbed woman roamed in the forest looking for the lost son.
You can hear noice from inside of the hill sometimes. It is the moans of the unfortunate child caught in. It is usually followed by a horrible storm raging, bawling, roaring around the hill. It is the moans of the sheperd's woman who laments for her child...

The Spring arrives earliest at Hungary in the northside beech and sunny south oak forests, and in the linden or sweet chestnut woods around Zengovárkony. A sort of peony (Paeonia officinalis ssp. banatica) that grows only on the great field of the hillside is the most beautiful Hungarian wild flower.
THIS PLACE IS A HIGHLY PROTECTED NATURE RESERVE AREA, SO PLEASE, TAKE CARE OF THE ENVIRONMENT, ESPECIALLY PLANTS!
Have a nice search!
