Find the cache then look up to see the remnants of the Beaver Dam Lodge, now closed to the public. No need to cross the fence. THIS IS A LOG ONLY CONTAINER. PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN PENCIL OR PEN.
The lodge was built at the end of the Roaring Twenties as a one night stop-over for people traveling between Salt Lake and L.A. During the summer season,occupancy rates averaged 115 percent. It soon became a popular get away spot for entertainers and was known as the playground of the stars before Las Vegas got off to a good start. At that time Las Vegas had only two major hotels: The Sal Sageo and the Apache. The El Rancho had not been built yet. Some famous personalities that were guests of the Lodge were Clark Gable, Pat O 'Brian, Wallace Berry, Jack Benny, Errol Flynn, Tyrone Power and Nelson Eddy. In the early 1940's, Howard Hughes directed a controversial western movie called "THE OUTLAW" staring Jane Russell in nearby Little field, Arizona in an old corral. Ms Russell stayed at the lodge during the filming. Her bra was designed by Howard Hughes and because of her ample assets, the movie was banned in many countries. It took almost three years to be approved in the United States.
