Geocache Description:

This is our first micro-cache, so comments welcome on the location and the clues to get there. You will visit the villages of Hyde, Frogham and Abbotswell. You could also consider the Abbotswell cache while you are in the area. The ridge above Ogdens offers stunning views across the forest towards Hasley Hill and beyond.

This is a microcache, with no room for "goodies". Please bring your own pen and possibly tweezers for retrieval.

Park in the large gravel parking area outside of the village school, overlooking the village cricket pitch. Quite idyllic. The parking area can be quite busy in term time, but is usually empty at the weekend and holidays. Take a walk along the track (past the phonebox) to Hyde Village Church just for fun; a lovely small church which serves the local linked villages well. There are several parking places / Forest access points for stunning walks nearby.

The villages are served by two watering places. For coffee, snacks and light meals, “The Stables Tearoom”, at the Hyde Garden Shop very near your start point; just a short walk along the road behind the school. For a pub lunch, “The Foresters” is at the bottom of Abbotswell Road and serves excellent local food. Donkeys congregate outside of the pub each morning, waiting for leftover food from the day before. Otherwise, pop into Fordingbridge, where any of the local pubs or cafes will look after you well.

Your actual search starts at the Hyde School, and the initial clues will take you north east towards Frogham. Not all of the clues are at the Hyde Crossroads; some will be found further on your journey towards Frogham. The final walk on the forest is quite short, but can be turned into a round walk to Abbotswell or drop down the hill (South) into Ogdens, then follow the road to the right to get back to the school. From the Frogham Road, the walk, for the most part, is along a good forest track (used by residents in their cars) It can be accessed by buggies and even more robust wheel chairs. The final cache involves a short walk down a wet hillside, but is only 30 yds beyond the track, so accompanying buggies and chairs will be within sight.

The final cache is at N 50 54 ABC
W 001 45 DEF

Find the missing numbers by;

A = Hyde School was built in ??85. First co-ordinate (A) is the second digit minus the first
B = Water, water, everywhere. Set of three, D---. Sum of numbers = B
C = Number of windows on the front wall of the cricket pavillion. (actual windows, not panes or doors with glass!)
D = SP6 1DD? An important post?
E = Number of sides on the gatepost at Frogham Congregational Church less the hinges = E
F = P appears as which letter on the forest sign at the gate onto the forest (beyond which only residents may drive)

Now you have the final location and are just at the right place to start. Enjoy your walk.
