Geocache Description:

Be extra careful where you park and walk. The mill and the fenced area are private property- and the woman who owns it lives nearby and she is a very sour old soul. Downright hateful. She doesn't own the roadway nor does she own the guard rail. I tried to get her to talk to me today about the mill and she said she "didn't need to tell me anything!" So-
Be on your guard.

In September of 2008 Hurricane Ike stopped for a visit to Ohio. Lanes Mill was already crumbling and there was a crack in its side that grew wider with every winter. The hurricane winds dealt the final blow to the old mill. Here's what's left of the mill. You'll get a good look at the bottom structure and the foundation.

Lanes Mill Rd. is a slow, beautiful country road....don't let your guard down...watch for unexpected traffic. Watch out for the maroon Mercury and the old woman in it. Keep smiling and keep to the road way.

If the weather is nice, stroll along the edge of the bridge and take a look at 4-Mile Creek. Rumor has it that there is a Great Heron rookery along this creek. Don't be surprised if you see one of the great birds standing in the creek.

Look west along the creek...out of sight-is a hill-maybe visible in the winter months... what the locals call "Chaw Raw Hill"- early European settlers- ate what they captured raw-lest a fire gave away their location to the natives in the area.
