The Ent of Tatum Park Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

OReviewer: As there's been no cache to find for a long time or has had no owner response for at least 30 days, I'm archiving it to keep it from showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

Please note that if geocaches are archived by a reviewer or Geocaching HQ for lack of maintenance, they are not eligible for unarchival.

Geocache Description:

This is a two stage multicache in Tatum Park, part of the Monmouth County Park System. Tatum Park is named after a prominent Monmouth County family that was headed by Charles Tatum of NYC. He purchased the property in 1905 as his summer home. He also owned factories in Keyport and Millville where he manufactured laboratory glassware, bottles, decanters, paperweights and glass insulators. Between donations and purchased acquisitions, Tatum Park is now 368 acres. It needed more than one geocache!

Park in the Holland Activity Center parking lot (N40 23.358, W074 08.219) on Holland Road NOT the one on Red Hill Road.

The first stage of this multicache is camouflaged and is watched over by an Ent. Not sure what an Ent is? They are a very old race that appeared in Middle Earth when the Elves did. They are tree-like creatures, having become like the trees that they shepherd. They vary in size, coloring, number of fingers and toes and in lots of other characteristics. An individual Ent more or less resembles the specific species of tree that they typically guard. You can see pictures of Ents at this website: fan.theonering.net/middleearthtours/ents.html.

The first stage of this cache is very close to the trail so watch out for walking, running and biking muggles - especially at lunch time. It only contains the co-ordinates for the second stage.

As you leave the first stage and head towards the second, look back and see the Ent watching you!

The second stage is only 25 feet from the trail so please - no bushwacking! It is a Rubbermaid container. Please close the lid tightly and rehide it well. If you continue on the trail it will take you out to Red Hill Road. The trail doesn't loop back to the parking lot at Holland Road but it's a nice walk through the woods.

The rangers at this park are great so if you see them, make sure you tell them what a good job they do.

Don't forget to do the other 8 caches at Tatum Park and the 3 at Deep Cut Gardens close by.
