Steve-e-b: Sadly this is the end of the road for the Travel Bug Lounge.
The HS2 development has been on the horizon for some time and construction has finally arrived.
This cache has been a place for Travel Bugs to hitch a ride from the airport for 13 years. It has served a purpose but now it closes its doors.

Geocache Description:


A departure lounge for travel bugs waiting to leave the country.

An easy cache located within a 5-minute drive of Birmingham International Airport. For security reasons the container could not be placed any closer but is within easy reach by car.

Getting There

The cache is set-up to be a quick "cache and dash" for people on their way to catch a plane. So here are some comprehensive directions for getting to the cache by car.
Regardless of which direction you are approaching the airport from you need to join the roundabout at junction 6 of the M42. Take the exit sign-posted to Coventry (A45 East) but before you join the A45 follow the slip-road away to the left and then turn left (sign-posted "Middle Bickenhill Lane"). The cache is located half-way along this road. There is a small lay-by on the right where you can park just yards from the cache.

Several cachers have travelled to the cache on foot. The cache is walkable from the airport/NEC complex, although it is a bit of a trek. From the railway station, which is linked to the airport by monorail, it is a 1¾ mile walk (about ½ hour each way).
This map of the NEC site shows the area in detail. The cache is hidden on the east side of the M42, roughly opposite car park E4.

The Cache

You are looking for a 3 litre lunch box. The ground around the cache looks like it could get muddy and slippy after rain.
Exchange as many bugs as you like but before taking a bug please consider it's goal.

Keeping Track of Trackables

A number of travel bugs, particularly geocoins, have gone missing from this cache in the past.
To combat the problem I ask everyone to write clearly in their log which TBs have been dropped and picked up. This helps me keep track of when TBs go missing and it has also reduced the number of instances.
I continue to ask that you do it. And I still advise everyone not to place geocoins in this cache.
