This stronghold, known as Fort Merensky, was partly erected
under the guidance of the missionaries, stationed here at
Botshabelo. It is a unique example of Sotho architecture, but also
a true Fort. This stronghold differs from mountain strongholds such
as those erected by Bantu chiefs like Moshesh and Sekonyela. Chief
Sekukuni, who wanted to oppress Christianity, was deterred to
attack this stronghold. This stronghold fell into disrepair and the
restoration of it started in 1960. The cache itself is a short walk
from the Fort as there are normally quite a few visitors to the
area. As this is quite a sensitive area, you need not rip apart
stone walls. The cache is INSIDE a former dwelling in the far
corner under a big flat rock.
