Voyage To Saturn Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

OReviewer: As there's been no cache to find for months, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

This is a micro Cache located in the parking lot of the Hampton Inn in Grantville. PA. The cache is used to represent Saturn in the “Voyage Through The Solar System” cache (Waypoint GCR3WK). The cache is a large disguised prescription bottle.

Saturn is the sixth planet from the Sun and is the second of the outer planets. Saturn is the second largest planet in the solar system and is called one of the giant planets as well as a gaseous planet. Saturn's rings make the planet one of the most beautiful objects in the solar system. The atmosphere is primarily composed of hydrogen with small amounts of helium and methane. Saturn is the only planet less dense than water and in the unlikely event that a large enough ocean could be found, Saturn would float in it.

Like Jupiter, Saturn has a very fast rotation on its axis and its day is 10 hours, 39 minutes long as compared to the 24 hour day on Earth. This rapid spinning on its axes causes Saturn to bulge at the equator. The wind blows at high speeds on Saturn. Near the equator the wind has been known to reach a velocities of 1,100 miles an hour.

Saturn is located 888,187,982 miles from the sun. It has a diameter of 72,351 miles. It takes 1 hour 19.59 minutes for the light from the sun to reach Saturn. In our imaginary voyage through the Solar System, the dome of the Pennsylvania State Capital Building which is 76 feet in diameter would represent the Sun. Because our imaginary voyage has to use roads, we are unable to see the Dome, but the size and distance from the cache to the State Capital Dome would be proportionate to this scale model of the sun. Saturn would be about 76.3 inches (6.4 feet) in diameter. The Sun would be 14.757 miles away.

Because of the limitations on hiding caches, the exact distance between the Capital Dome and the cache may be off slightly. I made the best effort to find a place as close to the calculated scaled distance as I was able.
(visit link) was used to find the scaling data for this cache. For more information on the Solar System see (visit link)

Stealth may be required at times and as usual watch out for muggles. BYOP. When replacing the cache try to replace as well or better than you found it.

If you are going to take the Voyage through the Solar System, make sure you write down the code number from the log.

Now let’s continue your voyage to the seventh planet, Uranus.
