"First Contact" Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Scrudder: It's been almost two years since this one was found, and the last couple logs show as DNF's. I am no longer in the area, though I do come back occasionally. Because of this, I will look to pick this cache up the next time I am in the area, but for now am going to archive it. If there is someone else in the area that is interested in placing an easy and fun cache, here's the perfect location.

It has had an excellent run with over a hundred logged finds, I am hoping that the next cache here will do as well.

Geocache Description:

You are looking for a camo taped container near Polk Middle School.

"First Contact" was, in my opinion, the best Next Generation movie made to date. There was humor, adventure, danger, a bit of a love interest, fighting old enemies, and even making of new friends. I especially liked the movie because we got to see a new Borg ship, the "Sphere". The storyline is that the Borg are invading Earth space, again, and the Federation (you know, the Star Trek people) are fighting them off. Picard has everyone shoot the Borg cube in one particualr place, the cube blows up, and a sphere flies out from the explosion towards Earth. It forms a tunnel in time (called a "temporal vortex") that the Enterprise follows it through, to Earth, April 2063.

If you've seen the movie, then you know that Picard and his crew help Zephram Cochrane (check out Star Trek history) with the first warp space flight, destroy the Borg, and get to watch as Cochrane makes contact with the Vulcans.

As a family we made first contact with Carrollton in June of 1997. I was looking to move my family to the Dallas / Ft. Worth area and was here to interview with Carrollton - Farmers Branch ISD, for a teaching position I didn't know if I really wanted. I had applied for the Tech Ed teacher position at Polk Middle School, which would open in August of that year, and interviewed with the principal and the Career & Tech Director for the district. After the interview Scrudwoman and I drove over to the school to check it out.

If I'd known eight years ago how much fun I would be having with this job, I surely wouldn't have been as hesitant as I was. The past eight years have been very enjoyable.

This cache is located near Polk Middle School, in the green belt area just north of it. You will find a walking trail, picnic tables, and even a baseball diamond. There is a creek that runs through the area, but you don't have to get wet to find this cache. There is even a frisbee disc golf course nearby. The container is a ... let's say that there is no room for trade items, and the container is waterproof. Please make sure the log book is put back into the ziplock back and secured to keep it dry. Also, please put any camo back the way you found it.

There was a $2.00 bill for FTF.

Don't get caught in a temporal vortex while trying to find this one. Just set your best warp speed, and engage.
