Geocache Description:

Passing through a small lagoon on the north side of the island, may be the easiest way to reach it if you are travelling by any ship.

The cache belongs to the trilogy "Three Pilots" and is dedicated to the memory of Cristobal Garcia Xalmiento, pilot on board the Pinta. The Pinta was captained by Martín Alonso Pinzón, a leading mariner from the town of Moguer in Andalucia. Of the three ships on the first voyage, the Santa Maria was the slowest, and the Pinta was the fastest.

Quotation from Joshua Slocum / SAILING ALONE AROUND THE WORLD:

"Looking out of the companionway," Slocum wrote, "to my amazement I saw a tall man at the helm. His rig was that of a foreign sailor, and the large red cap he wore was cockbilled over his left ear, and all was set off with shaggy black whiskers. 'Señor,' said he, doffing his hat, 'I have come to do you no harm. I am one of Columbus's crew. I am the pilot of the Pinta come to aid you. Lie quiet, Señor Captain, and I will guide your ship tonight.' " With this little bit of whimsy, Slocum started a tradition that still delights voyagers today. The pilot of the Pinta has become the patron saint of all solo circumnavigators"

(In fact - the pilot could also have been Martin Alonso Pinzon - hard to say in the stormy darkness)

In the cache you will find a amulet that you can take with you as a memory and also find Pintas crewlist.
