Cornell Oaks Corporate Center is a fine business park. Well kept landscaping, calming water features, and a myriad of trails, picnic tables, established trees and lawns make for a pleasant environment. It is close to transportation, shopping, parks and homes. Take time to drive through and see where I spend half my waking hours each business day! If you can find me, stop in and say "Hi!"
The cache is located in the midst of a business park, so there can be lots of muggles at times. The cache location is fairly exposed so use stealth and/or plan your visit around non-business hours. The cache location is landscaped, so please tread lightly.
1) From the initial coordinates due north by east 365' is a piece of public art, "Arch with Oaks" by Lee Kelly. The year this art was erected and copyrighted can be found within its immediate vicinity and is ABCD (=1986).
Update: Feb, 2006: A "No Trespassing" sign has been erected near the sculpture, allowing close viewing but denying access to the needed information. Please heed the sign.
Update: Apr, 2006: Use the following information from the "No Trespassing" sign, counting the number of occurances of the following letters on the sign:
Update: Jan, 2014: One of the willow trees has been removed, and a station change next door. The puzzle has been updated accordingly.
Update: May, 2015: Another willow tree has been removed! Updated the puzzle to be less dependent upon trees and letters and dates.
A = 'V'
B = 'I' + the number of large (willow) trees that used to line the creek from the street to the sculpture
C = 'T' + 'S' + 'Y'
D = 'R' + 'A'
2) From the art due south 200' sits a building. The number of television stations that broadcast from this location is E (= 2).
3) The channel number of the television station that is also found in that building's street address is FG (= 49).
The final coordinates are 45° 31.XXX and 122° 49.YYY,
which can be calculated as follows:
YYY = (A+B)*50+(C*D)
XXX = YYY-(G*(F+E)+2)
The cache is roughly 1/3 mile from the posted coordinates. Parking is sparse but possible (walking is better for you!).
Initial contents of the cache have an office theme. A 'worst-case-scenerio: Work' and an OfficeDepot gift card await the first finder.
