Geocache Description:

Located close to the summit of the tree-covered top of Beacon Fell overlooking Penrith town and the Lake District

After a number of muggle finds we have moved the cache slightly, it is now nearer the summit but please be careful when locating and replacing. You may need to read the clue to find the cache. Suggest parking on the road at N54.40.296, W002.44.612 using GPS to get you to the summit where the clue comes in.

The Beacon itself was built in 1719 but stands in the place of previous earlier signal fires, used most often to warn of impending invasion by the Scots from the North. It was last used in anger in 1745 during the Jacobite Rebellion, although it was lit during Napoleonic times when nervous rumours warned of invasion by the French.

On a clear day the top gives stunning views of the Eastern Lake District although if you want to take an unrestricted photograph there is another viewing point further down the path where the trees have been cleared.

The trees are also home to Red squirrels so look out!.

The cache is at the base of a pine tree , but which one ? a small plastic box with the usualy mix of treasure.
