Here's the story behind Uncle Bob. Everybody has a horror story of the worst caching trip they've ever had. For us this happened when we decided to spice up our family reunion by taking 13 family members who had never been caching before to find Poor Man's Hunting Shack near Rhinelander, Wisconsin. It had a low difficulty rating and was close by, so we set off with 4 vehicles and 3 GPS units. Although the cache was within a mile, we soon found ourselves hopelessly lost on dirt logging roads with potholes bigger than our car. The roads criss-crossed and doubled back. After about 6 U-turns, we realized that Uncle Bob's car was no longer following us. There was nothing to do but carry on. Eventually, we found the cache. But where was Uncle Bob?
Three hours later, Uncle Bob made it back to the campsite. he had stayed out there in the forest until he found the cache. Did this experience turn him off the sport forever? Did it cause him unspeakable trauma? Nope. A few weeks later, Uncle Bob mailed us this cache container as an anniversary present.
This cache has been placed in honor of Uncle Bob. To make up for his first caching experience, it is placed in the middle of civilization, easy to get to. If anything, your challenge will be to avoid being seen by muggles whose comfortable homes adjoin the trail. Hope lots of first time cachers cut their teeth on this cache.
