There are 3 caches on the 3 mountains surrounding Abergavenny. They form a large triangle. This cache is in the exact centre of that triangle.
The co-ordinates at the top of this page are for Abergavenny castle. It’s within a few miles!
To find this cache you’ll need to do some careful map reading and use a bit of maths! If you draw lines connecting the locations of the (now archived!) cache on Sugar Loaf mountain (GCGQBN ‘Sweet Mountain) to the cache on Skirrid Fawr (GCN02X Skirrid Fawr) then to the cache on Blorenge mountain (GC2BA The First in Wales) you’ll get a large triangle. You’ll have to plot this carefully. Now bisect each of the 3 angles formed and project the lines into the centre of the triangle. Where the 3 lines meet is the cache. Easy eh? The co-ordinates are all done using the British Grid (OSGB).
Now I realise that using pen, paper and a protractor is not all that accurate but if you are careful you should get to within 100 meters (first 3 digits of each co-ordinate). So I’m giving you the last 2 digits which makes the co-ordinates you need as SOxxx39 yyy49. These last 2 digits take you down to 1 metre.
The cache is a small metal pot with a waterproof screw on cap, about 3 inches long and 1.5 inches in diameter. It’s painted green! Logbook and small pencil inside.
I don’t want to give you any clues but for safety reasons bear the following in mind if you have children with you. The cache is at ground level just off a footpath but there is a fairly steep bank beside it, so watch your footing.
