Small walk in the woods
This cache is located at the site of the Bear Trail fire. The fire started on Memorial Day 1961. The fire burned 550 acres, one half mile wide and 3 miles long. It was caused by a careless fisherman. I remember seeing the area after the fire. So I decided to place this cache to remind everyone “Only you can prevent forest fires”. So this cache will be called Smokey the (Bear Trail). All of the beginning contents are Smokey the Bear related, but any trinkets will be fine. This cache also is the beginning of the Smokey the Bear (Bear Trail) TB.
***NOTE****
I have gone to the site and replaced the container with a metal ammo box. Hopefully this will be more of a challenge to the bear. I also will be hanging whistles on a tree where the trail begins. If you would like to take one and whistle while you walk to the cache...please do. I ask that you return it to the tree for the next cacher.
***NOTE***
As of 10/7/07 there has been no progress in the clean-up of this area. I will try to climb through the mess of downed trees this week. See what, if anything, is still there.
