A traditional cache over the Apolakkia dam.
The dam in question is situated 4 kms north of the village Apolakkia.It is also situated 7 kms south of the village Siana from the foot of the mountain Akramitis.The road from Siana (Summer 2005) was easy gravel, downhill, twisty road and if you don’t want your car to be dirty, you will have to use the asphalt road from Apolakkia.
You can park your car at the point N36 06 606 E27 47 526.Then you have to hike but not for long.Long trousers and close sport shoes are a must because the bushes scratch seriously.
The cache consists of the following items: a logbook, a pen and a pencil in a separate ziploc bag, a geocaching declaration in Greek at one side and in English at the opposite side.Also initially contained a hug shaped red heart with the logo relax, a white miniature police car, two small candles, a 4x4 small car, a plastic ram, an unused fork from a fast food, four glass balls, a small miniature “eating car” and a map of Rhodes, all in a separate Ziploc bag.
Please remember not to place inside any flammable items, because the area is full of bushes and the temperatures are pretty high during summer.
Enjoy the view of the dam from the spot.The most interesting and strange fact there, is in the water of the dam.Once there was an Orthodox church named after Panagia Theotokos.This church immersed in the lake created by the dam and with only its dome above the water nowadays, stands there as thought calling out to the skies in its last, tortured prayer.
