In the early 1850's this was a flag stop on the Southwestern Railroad and was known as "Number One and One Half-Station." It had a wood rack for wood burning engines that was kept by Nimrod Jackson. Later the settlement became known as Jackson Station. Dr. C. H. Richardson, a Confederate veteran who led the effort for the town's incorporation in 1874, chose the current name because of his liking for the writings of the English poet. Now the time has come for you to place your log near Nimrod Jackson's wood rack.
