Geocache Description:

A simple offset multi along a beautiful river where ships for Admiral Lord Nelson’s fleet at the Battle of Trafalgar were built.

This cache is placed near Buckler's Hard where Lord Nelson's favourite ship, HMS Agamemnon, was built. It was whilst in command of the Agamemnon that Nelson lost the sight of his right eye during shore action at the siege of Calvi in 1794. HMS Agamemnon, together with HMS Euryalus and HMS Swiftsure, were all built at Buckler's Hard and all took part in the Battle of Trafalgar.

The co-ordinates above are for the parking (please note this opens at 10am and gets locked at 8pm. It costs £5 for three hours, which is more than enough time to do the cache. If you wish to stay longer that three hours then it is £7.50). It is now free to walk around the buildings of the village, but there is a charge if you want to visit the maritime museum

There is cheaper alternative parking in Beaulieu Village - there is a pay and display car park at N50° 49.057 W001° 27.180. The fees can be found here. Details of the route to Bucklers Hard can be downloaded from here.

Which ever route you decide to get to Bucklers Hard, go to N50° 47.964 W001° 25.269 where you should find the numbers to make up the northing of the final co-ordinates.

These are N50° 48.ABC W001° 25.DEF.

The board for the northings is currently missing, so until I can get down to Bucklers Hard, I have given you the answers

A is the item number of the description of the Riverside Walk. = 3
B is the item number for Beaulieu Village. = 5
C is the item number for the National Motor Museum.= 7

Now head towards the notice board at N50°48.007 W001°25.388 where you will find the information to make up the westing of the final location.

Bucklers Hard Marina was opened in 19D1.
The Marquess Of Monthermer was born in 17E5.
The Hendeys moved to a house in the village in 190F

You do not need to climb over any fences to find this cache. Do not use the riverside walk!
Please be discreet when finding this cache!

To find out more about Buckler's Hard and its facilities see the Buckler's Hard webpage

As this cache was placed to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Lord Nelson's victory and tragic death at the Battle of Trafalgar, the initial contents have a nautical theme to them. Please keep to this theme if you can. Enjoy!

If you intend to swap items, please remember: trade up, trade equal or trade nothing (trackables, of course, don't count as swaps).

Logging Etiquette: Geocache hiders sometimes go through a great deal of planning to place their caches. As a result, they'd like to hear your feedback on whether you liked or disliked any aspect of the hide, or if you feel that some cache maintenance is required. Single word, acronym, or emoticon logs may be easier when you have a lot of caches to log, but it doesn't tell the hider or other finders anything about your adventure (or lack thereof) in finding the cache. Please keep this in mind when entering your log.
