Tämä kätkö johdattaa sinut Vääksyn kanavan maisemiin. Koordinaatit
osoittavat sopivalle parkkipaikalle, josta on mukava aloittaa
alueen paikkoihin tutustuminen.
Päijänteen vesiliikenteen päätepiste oli vuosisatoja ollut
Anianpelto, josta tavarat rahdattiin hevosilla Porvooseen. Vääksyn
kanavahanke oli vireillä jo 1850-luvulla.
Venäjän hallinto oli kuitenkin sitä mieltä että kanava oli
tarpeeton, koska Vesijärven eteläosissa ei ollut teollisuutta, joka
olisi kanavasta hyötynyt.
Tuohon aikaan Lahden väkiluku oli noin 200 ja kaikki liiketoiminta
oli keskittynyt Anianpellolle Päijänteen eteläpuolelle.
Vihdoin vuonna 1868 päästiin kavavan rakennustöihin. Töissä oli
parhaimmillaan noin 400 miestä ja toistasataa hevosta.
Kanava valmistui vuonna 1871 ja sitä peruskorjattiin vuosina
1909-1911.
Nykyisin Vääksyn kanava on yksi Euroopan vilkkaimmin
liikennöidyistä sisävesikanavista.
Kuten aikaisemmin tuli todettua, koordinaatit eivät johda suoraan
kätkölle, vaan kätkö löytyy oheisen kartan avulla, johon lähtöpiste
on merkitty punaisella rastilla. Lähde pisteestä suuntaan 215,68°
ja kävele 86 metriä ja kätkön pitäisi löytyä. Varo

This geocache will lead you to the surroundings of the Vääksy
canal. Coordinates will take you to the proper parking place, where
is nice to start become familiar with the area.
Building of Vääksy canal was planned already in 1850's. The
administration of Russia thought the canal was unnecessary because
there was no business that needed canal in the southern end of
Vesijärvi.
The population in Lahti was about 200 at that time and all the
business was concetrated in Anianpelto in southern end of the lake
Päijänne.
From there all the goods were carried to Porvoo with horses.
At last in 1868 they started to build the canal. At the most there
were about 400 men and more than one hundred horses at work.
They finished building the canal in 1871 and it has been renovated
in 1909-1911.
Nowadays Vääksy canal is one of the most busiest inland water
canals in Europe.
Like it was noted earlier the cache is not in given coordinates,
but it can be found with the map included here where the starting
point is marked with red X. Go from that point to the direction
215,68° and walk 86 meters and cache should be there. Beware of
geomuggles!
