Geocache Description:

This is a micro in a small park in Halifax. The terrain is uneven but easy.

On December 6, 1917, the biggest man-made explosion prior to the atom bomb occurred in Halifax Harbour.
*A little help needed* I visited the cache on Aug. 19 to replace the wet contents, but unfortunately the cache had disappeared, and I didn't have an extra film canister with me. I had to leave the new log book and pencil in a ziploc bag without a container to help protect it, and it will be some time before I am in the area again. If the next cacher could take a film canister with them and put the new log in it, I'd appreciate the help. Thanks!

In 1917 Halifax was a booming port involved in the World War I effort. But on that December morning the Mont-Blanc, loaded with munitions bound for the war in France, collided with the Imo. The end result was an explosion that devastated the city. Buildings were flattened, more than a thousand people were dead by the end of the day, a thousand more would die before it was all over, and nine thousand people were left injured. This bell tower was erected as a memorial "to those who lost their lives or suffered injuries ... and to the survivors who rebuilt the cities or Halifax & Dartmouth."

Please note: Some cachers have noticed some rather unruly kids in the park, and indications the area might be a hangout. Please do this cache during the daytime and make sure the area is unoccupied before searching for the container.
