The year is 1930, Prohibition is in force, and Treasury Agent
Hanratty once again tangles with his nemesis, K3. This time the
problem is counterfeiting; he needs to locate the stash of
counterfeit money. First, go to the posted coordinates where you
will find a CD. Insert that in the CD drive of a PC (not Mac,
sorry) and read the Readme.txt file to get instructions on how to
assume the role of Agent Hanratty. Then doubleclick on the file
cntrfeit.exe to begin your sleuthing. If you are successful you
will find a second stage where you will retrieve two numbers that
you need. Then you will use those numbers to compute the third and
final stage coordinates. When you go there, be sure to log a
recovered bill into the evidence log. Then return the CD to its
original location.
There are two CDs in the stage 1 cache, both the same. I have
tested them on three machines, and all ran fine, but if you have
technical problems, let me know. Be sure to read the readme.txt
file for tips. It's OK to copy the files from the CD onto your hard
drive, but don't mail them to others, or otherwise spoil the
caching experience by allowing others to avoid stages 1 or 2. The
software on the CD is not shareware or freeware - it is to be used
on the original media only and returned. This is a multi-cache and
every finder should visit all three stages, so be considerate and
return your copy to the original stage as soon as you can. If you
take one out and do not return it the same day, please log a note
on the cache page stating how many copies remain in the stage 1
cache, so that others behind you do not go for an empty cache. I
recommend you bring a laptop with you on this one. If you do, and
if you are a good detective, you can finish this in half a day. On
the other hand, you may have to take the CD home for a day or
two.
