Under 1710 och 1711 härjade pesten i Sverige. Den spred sig
från Turkiet norrut och kom till Stockholm via Riga i juni
1710. Under vintern ebbade epidemin ut för att ta fart igen
under våren 1711.
Åttio procent av de smittade dog inom tre dagar. Den
smittade fick hög feber med yrsel och matthet, samt
blåsor och stora svarta bölder på kroppen. Det
bestämdes att de döda skulle "jordas i backen" utan
ceremonier och svepningar.
100000 människor dog under denna period och de som
släktforskar får se spåren av epidemin i kyrkans
dödböcker.

Orrefors och Älghult.

During 1710 and 1711 the plague swept over Sweden. It came from
Turkie to Stockholm via Riga in june 1710. During the winter the
epidemic paused, and came back in the spring 1711.
Eighty percent of the infected died within tre days; and the
infected had high fever with dissiness, weakness, blisters and big
black abscess´ on the body. It were decided that the dead
were to be buried in the massgraves without ceremonies and winding
sheet. 100000 people died durin this period.
