Geocache Description:

Geocachers of West Tennessee

The first ever West Tennessee Mega Multi Cache is HERE!

The cache is NOT AT THE POSTED COORDINATES! To find this cache you must successfully hunt 14 separate caches, hidden by 14 different geocachers in the West Tennessee area. The names of all of these caches will begin with WEST TN MEGA MULTI. At each of these caches you will be given a clue that will enable you to determine the coordinates of the final cache, a LARGE metal box containing an assortment of above average trade items, items in the $5-15 range. Be forewarned, the terrain at the final is NOT for the faint of heart!

The clues consist of a letter that corresponds to a number, one set making up the Latitude code, and a different set making up the Longitude code. An example would be: Latitude Code B=9 Here comes the tricky part. You will eventually have 14 clues; seven latitude numbers and seven longitude numbers. ALL 14 NUMBERS ARE REQUIRED! If you get two clues that are identical, that means that there is a number REPEATED in that coordinate. For instance, if you find two clues that say “Latitude Code B=9”, that means there are TWO nines in the latitude coordinate! None of the 14 caches contain duplicates!

Armed with all 14 clues, read the following paragraph. Somewhere in this paragraph are two sets of seven consecutive letters corresponding to the code letters. Using the two codes you have found, find the correct seven consecutive letters, and you will have the coordinates to the final cache! “Impossible!” you say? Well, now think about it for a bit. You know it’s in West Tennessee, so the Latitude is bound to start with 35, right? And the longitude probably starts with either 88 or 89, so start your search by looking for the two letter in the latitude code that equal 3 and 5 in that order. Then do the same thing for the longitude, looking for the two letters that would make 88 or 89. Remember that the 7 letters that translate to each coordinate will be consecutive. They could be broken up by spaces or punctuation, but never by an unrelated letter! I have been over the paragraph with a fine toothed comb, and there is NO instance where 7 consecutive letters can be translated except the two coordinates. Good Luck!

Roland sat with his back to a large stone, trying to catch his breath. Tiny twinkles danced in front of his burning eyes like phantom fireflies, though even most bugs had better sense than to be out here. A sudden shear of pain in his left buttock reminded him that even here, nature has her minions. A sand spider, too small to see, but the distinct burning pain left no doubt of his tormenter’s identity. Thank God they weren’t highly poisonous, just a pain in the…well this time literally!

He had been on this trail for…how long? Days? Weeks? His mind refused to speculate, a useless endeavor in such a state as his. What he really needed was water! So simple, so precious out here! He’d begun to think the little sliver of reflection he’d been seeing all morning, snaking through the shallow valley, would turn out to be a mirage. But if it was, it was a realistic one, complete with stunted scrub and Saguaro, and of course, devil-grass. He rose now waveringly to his feet, steadying himself with his unbandaged hand. His injured left had ceased throbbing, but he knew that any little bump would set it off again. He approached the little stream, eyeing it doubtfully; it wouldn’t be the first time he’d approached cool, flirting liquid only to find it bitter on the tongue and stinging to the lips. He took a hank of rawhide from his battered deerskin pouch and wrapped it around his left hand. The hand had no real strength left but he was always the pragmatic sort. If the choice was get water or leave his wounded hand be, well, what choice was there, really? He knelt beside the stream, then with a wary eye on the rock strewn trail ahead, rested his weight on the injured hand. Bright, white pain flashed across his mind, momentarily clouding his vision, then he settled in for what must be. He had to have the water, he had no skins in which to carry it, he dare not take his eyes off the trail and its myriad of ambush coves and clefts, and so he must, like Gideon’s warriors, raise the water to his parched lips with his good hand. When he had drunk all he dared lay upon his uneasy stomach, he drowned the screams of his poor hand in the cool spring water. He felt his strength wax, refreshed by the first clean water he had encountered in nearly two days, and decided to test his queasy stomach with a little of his wasting rations. He held the jerk between his teeth, and with an unconscious ease, lopped off a fair piece with his knife. He dared not rest here, not in this place of shadows and ghosts, but how far until the next water? He did not know, but knew from experience it would likely be far. His quarry would surely rest as well! He must! He’s only a man, after all! Isn’t he?

It was here in the cleft of a rock, that the gunslinger would rest, feet drawn up to his chest, with the worn sandalwood grip of one of his ancient revolvers gripped naturally in his good right hand. It was an uneasy peace he made with sleep. But exhaustion was as much his enemy as the man in black whom he doggedly pursued.

Somewhere ahead, on the drifting wind, a soft, girlishly high voice said, “The enemy of my enemy is my friend,” and tittered softly. *********************************************************************
