Geocache Description:

I nice easy one, even has parking across the road from the cache.
The original Heart Stone, of Perthshire Granite, lay beside the Road to the Isles, when it was just a foot-path, through the heather, at Loch Eigheach. This huge boulder provided rest and shelter to travellers journeying between the Islands and Rannoch, or even on to the Trysts at Falkirk.
It's troubles began when the road was constructed across the moor to Rannoch Station, it followed the original track. The road makers found the Heart Stone partly in the way, rather than build the road round it, they bored and plugged it, almost splitting it in half. The Rannoch people were much dismayed about this. Hence-forth it was known as the Broken Heart Stone.
It then lay beside the road, a landmark to travellers and known to Highlanders, many from other parts of the world, as a mile-stone on their road to home.
When the North of Scotland Hydro Electric Board proposed the Gaur Scheme. The people of Rannoch realised that the Broken Heart would be submerged under the waters of the newly enlarged Loch Eigheach. A 'Save the Broken Heart Campaign' was mounted. The contractors on the job agreed to move the 15 tons of stone, to it's present resting place. At the point where the old road from Corrour, crosses the new road to Rannoch Station. Allowing modern travellers from the Isles still able to rest beside the stone, that has for so long stood beside the Road to the Isles, just as their forbears did.
