Coal Miner Cache Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Geo Froggy: It's gone. A fun hide for 9 years, the last of the original caches I placed, decided not to replace it.

Geocache Description:

You will find this cache in the Merrimac section of the Huckleberry Trail which winds from Blacksburg to Christiansburg. Merrimac has roots going back to the Civil War, when it was the site of a confederate mining colliery (a coal mining operation with housing for the miners). Supposedly, the area became known as Merrimac because the mine supplied coal to fuel the Ironclad Merrimac in its battle with the U.S.S. Monitor during the Civil War. You can read more about the trail here.
It is an easy paved path, with the cache located about 40 feet from it. The cache is a painted 11 x 7 1/2 inch tupperware box.
