Geocache Description:

DRUID CASTLE CACHE is located near the mouth of Domingo Baca Canyon East of Albuquerque, NM. The cache is hidden behind the castle and between rocks with a view, at 6780 ft. Not for small children.

Few people know the Druids built a castle (some say a cathedral) in NM in pre-historic times when the Stonehenge area was connected to New Mexico via Pangaea. The Druids had domesticated Hoop Snakes which they hitched to their stone hauling sledges. For those who didn't know, Hoop Snakes do a backflip, seize their own tails in their mouths, and then through synchronized muscular contraction, roll rapidly along the ground. Although they do not bite, they can hit speeds upward of twenty mph downhill, so beware. They are found only near Stonehenge and near Domingo Baca Canyon, which validated the suspected Druid connection. Do not remove Druid artifacts or disturb Hoop Snake nests.

From Ellena Gallegos picnic area (fee area, sorry), take the Nature Trail or TR140 to TR342, then N to TR230, then N to the Wilderness area gate, enter, then follow the Domingo Baca Trail; you are now on your own. The Domingo Baca Cabin Cash-Cache (GCH3VR) is a little further up the D.B. Trail.

This cache is visible from the Wilderness gate. I am sure some will get there via the direct route, but my choice is to follow the D.B. trail beyond the castle to an arroyo from the right. Follow up the arroyo North side until you think you can make the cache to the SSE. The cache is on a slight rise above the saddle, between rocks and beneath Yucca grass, about 110 feet East of the Castle ruins. Coords were average of 335 readings (really!). Cache is an ammo can containing a TB, CDs, clock, jewelry, forceps (for removing logs from nano caches), padlock, batteries and Log, with $10 bill for FTF. I placed this cache for those tired of nano caches in high traffic areas.
