Geocache Description:

This is an area of gently undulating sandy New Forest heathland with lots of heather and gorse and the occasional tree (often holly or hawthorn). Some of the ground is dry and sandy but there are also muddy areas and there is a large bog nearby.

The closest car park is at Clay Hill (SU 23237 02438 or N50.49.261 W001.40.289) but note that this is closed during the ground-nesting season (approximately March - July). Please stay on paths and take care to avoid disturbing ground-nesting birds during this period. For a longer walk with more challenging navigation, park at Burley Lawn (SU 22360 03325 or N50.49.741 W001.41.033) and walk to the cache by following the stream along the valley. Direct access from the main road looks temptingly straightforward but it is not as easy as it looks - there is a large bog in the way. The area is called Rock Hills on the OS map, but it is not obviously rocky. However, if you explore the sides of the path south of the site, where it goes through a cutting, you may find some interesting outcrops of 'Burley Rock' (a type of iron-cemented sandstone and conglomerate). The cache is a plastic box.
