Phillimore Clan: As we were in the area hunting out a new cache it was a good opportunity to pick this one up [:(]. Many thanks to everyone who hunted this one out, hope you enjoyed the find as much as we did the hide.

Geocache Description:

This cache will take you on a two mile circular walk along the Thames.

We discovered the start location for this cache whilst investigating the site of the "First Oxford Cache" with a view to resurrecting it. On finding the location we decided that this area deserved a much better cache so we have created this walk along the Thames and surrounding area showing you some of the contrasts in this area.

A rare treat so close to Oxford city centre, is FREE parking at N51 44.644 W001 15.652, for 2 hours Monday to Saturday between 08:00 & 18:30 (plenty of time for this cache), no restrictions at other times.

At the co-ords above you will need to count the number of digits and spell out the number. Substitute the letters in the word for numbers in the time honoured way dropping any preceding digits i.e. N = 4. This will give you "abcd", and again substitute this into the following co-ord.

N51° 44.(a+c)(a-d)d  W001° 16.(c-2)(b-4)a

At the next location you will find a memorial. Find the date that Edgar died and reorganise it to the UK standard format (i.e. DD/MM/YY). Take this as "ABCDEF" and transpose these numbers into the following co-ords.

N51° 44.F(B+C)(A+B)  W001° 16.(F-D)(E-D)(E/2)

Now continue along the towpath to the next co-ords where you will find a plaque on the building. Use the year on the Plaque "wxyz" and transpose these numbers into the following co-ord.

N51° 45.(w-z)y(y+z)  W001° 16.(w+z)z(x-w-z)

You should now be at the now disused (but maintained) Osney cemetery, at an unusual memorial. Find the date that Ellen was born and convert this date as above to give you "UVWXYZ" and transpose into the following co-ords.

N51° 44.(X-U)(V-Y)(X-1)  W001° 15.(V-1)(Y-U)(U+Z)

You now have the final set of co-ords to find the cache. This area can get quite busy at times so please be careful when retrieving and replacing this cache.

WARNING :
You do NOT need to climb on or over anything to find this cache.
Please do not attempt to climb, it will not help, and is DANGEROUS!!!

Why not combine this cache with (GCJAA6) Chester's Oxford Parks Quest - 11 (Grandpont) by Chester (use free parking and do first or last), (GCN4TH) Never at Sea - Watermans Arms by JollyJax (do on route) and (GCPTFQ) Give it the finger, Derek? by 2202, (complete at end of the River Walk); four for the price of one, can't be bad.

As my employer has decided that it would be a good idea to move the whole organisation to Bristol, the Phillimore's (Mad H@ter and Muddy Legs) will be moving on to pastures new and some fresh caches. Unfortunately this will mean that it will become difficult for us to maintain our Oxfordshire caches, so we will therefore be gradually archiving the majority of them. We shall start our program of collecting the caches and archiving them in the new year, but as we have one or two caches out there this will not be a five minute program! If you would particularly like to find this cache before it is archived please get in touch and we will try and hold off archiving it.
