To find this cache you will take a short walk around these wetlands collecting clues from information boards describing the local fauna.
Over the years this cache has had a few changes including when Melbourne Water, Stonnington Council and Friends of Gardiner Creek Valley installed new information signs around the wetlands, these included some audio elements! Repairs to the walkways and signs, as well as stolen cache containers have resulted in changes to clues and final location. But it's been here for more than a decade so please enjoy your visit!
At the posted co-ordinates you will be standing at an information sign for the wetlands. From here you will visit six locations to gather digits for the decimal elements of latitude and longitude. The first waypoint is a short walk to the first clue at S37° 51.751, E145° 03.671
A = the number of letters in the second word of the common name of the bottom creature on the sign.
A short walk to the second clue at: 37° 51.749 145° 03.686
B= The number of letters in the second word of the common name of the Top Left creature on the sign.
The third clue is at: 37° 51.778 145° 03.701
C = The number of letters in the first word of the top line on the sign.
The fourth clue is on a sign at 37° 51.814 145° 03.721
D= The number of letters in first word minus the number of letters in the second word of the common name of the bottom creature on the sign.
The fifth clue is on a sign at 37° 51.854 145° 03.690
E= The number of letters in the first word of the title (the question being asked) on the sign.
The sixth clue is at 37° 51.815 145° 03.688
F= The number of letters in the first word of the common name of the creature on the left most audio sign minus the total number of signs at this location.
After completing the calculations a further short stroll will take you to the cache at S37° 51.ABC, E145° 03.DEF
The cache is a one litre camouflaged container. Please be careful with the extraction and re-hiding of the cache as aspects of the container are quite fragile.
While the final location is off the formal path there is no need to cross fence lines to find clues or the cache, and as always please be careful to respect the environment.
