Geocache Description:

This cache is located outside of the Historical Electronics Museum near BWI Airport, Baltimore, MD. They have several neat vintage pieces of electronic defense equipment made by my company, Northrop Grumman (the former Westinghouse Defense Center). After doing the cache, if the museum is open, go inside and check out the history of electronics with an emphasis on Westinghouse's contributions-it's FREE.

This cache is a great one for those at BWI airport who have only a limited time available to go caching. It is a magnetic key container. The challenge is to determine which of many hiding spots it is in. During the business day there may be some traffic passing. To avoid giving away the cache location it is placed away from the road.

The significance of the cache name is that had the military commander on watch Dec 7, 1941 trusted this first radar, the US would have had some advance warning to defend itself against the imminent Japanese aerial assault with the attendant 2000+ deaths. The operator of this radar, the SCR-270, notified his superior about the unusual nature of the target, its direction and size. He was told not to worry, the returns he was seeing were probably a squadron of B17's returning from the mainland (wrong direction!).

The museum's reputation has spread and school groups routinely come for tours. Hours are: 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. Saturdays. The Museum's director has given us permission to place this cache here so don't feel too self-conscious about looking for the cache-just don't let muggles in on the secret!

BTW, I work for Northrop Grumman, the company that sponsors this museum (largest private employer in MD). Several finders have commented that they worked on some of the equipment that is now in this museum. Wonder when some of my designs will end up here!?

The cache is within walking distance of our "Chew Choo" and "Andover Overlook" by tomulus.
