Geocache Description:

Situated on The Radical Road, below Salisbury Crags in The Royal Park of Holyrood. The cache location can be found not far from the Cat Nick, This should be attempted during a clear day, as you will have wonderful views of the City.

The Radical Road & Sailsbury Crags

The Radical Road was built in 1820. Sometimes assumed to describe its winding course, the true name comes from the men who built it. Such was poverty in parts of Edinburgh that there were numbers of unemployed men of revolutionary inclination. Novelist Sir Walter Scott had amassed such a fortune at one stage in his career that he paid for these men to be employed at work which would both give the men purpose in life and the city a public walk with splendid views. Thus the Radical Road takes its name from the radical men who built it.

There are a few options to attempt this cache -

Extremely Radical = Go to N55° 56.710 W003° 10.320 which will take you to the top of Salisbury Crags. From here you will have to abseil down to the cache, then you could climb back up again.
To do this you must have permission from Historic Scotland to climb or abseil on the crags.

Totally Radical = Go to N55° 56.710 W003° 10.513 and go the direct route up!! This is Radical because it is steep and there are gorse bushes to negotiate round, but is possible.

Just Plain Radical = Go to N55° 57.044 W003° 10.187 and walk up the steep Radical Road, Although this route is on a solid path, it will get your heart pumping, as it is the second easiest way up, but it is steep.

Not So Radical = Go to N55° 56.560 W003° 10.015 and walk up the not so steep Radical Road, this is the better route if you have young children or have to use your Leki pole to go everywhere . If you are willing for a buggy to have a slightly bumpy ride and willing to have to push uphill, then this is also the option for you.

You will require a pen or pencil with you, and please be careful not to drop the container, as you will end up going for the totally radical option.
