Recently, a group of BCS (Bishop College School) students had to work on a geocaching search and recovery project in order to test Navstar Satellite accuracy. Moreover they also had to work on a cryptography project in another course. So they decided to mix these two goals to bring their first mystery cache.
The students get inspired by the cryptographic sculptures of Jim Sanborn. The most famous is undoubtedly Kryptos, a sculpture installed in 1990 at CIA Headquarters in Langley Virginia, as a challenge to the employees at the Agency. Its thousands of characters contain encrypted messages, of which three have been solved, but there is still a fourth section at the bottom which remains uncracked.
Using an encryption method developed in the 16th century by a Frenchman, our graduates designed this piece of parchment. They used an encoding keyword that is 10 letters long and that is composed of some obvious words found on this page.

Récemment un groupe d’étudiants du BCS (Bishop College School) ont démarré un projet visant à tester la précision des satellites du système Navstar. De plus, ils avaient un laboratoire de cryptographie à effectuer. Ils ont donc décidé de jumeler les deux objectifs et d'ainsi créer leur premiere cache mystère.
Ils ont été inspirés par les sculptures cryptographiques de Jim Sanborn dont la plus célèbre est sans contredit Kryptos. Celle-ci a été installée en 1990 au quartier général du CIA à Langley, Virginie. Il s'agissait d'un défi lancé aux employés de l'Agence. Ses milliers de caractères renferment des messages encryptés dont trois ont été jusqu'à présent découverts. Mais il y a toujours la quatrième section du bas qui demeure indéchiffrable.
Ainsi en utilisant une méthode d'encryption developpée au 16 ième siècle par un Français, nos étudiants gradués ont mis au point ce parchemin dont le texte est en anglais. Ils ont utilisé une clé d'encodage de 10 lettres composée de certains mots utilisés sans équivoque sur cette page.
