Harmondsworth is a small Village steeped in history, close to Heathrow Airport. How long can it survive before this once historic place turns into just a name on an old map?
Below is a brief history of the village:
• In 1086 Harmondsworth had a value of £20. There were 3 water mills, fish ponds, grape vines and game in abundance.
• There was a Benedictine Priory in the village. The rents for the water mills were paid to the monks and totalled £3 and 500 eels a year.
• The manorial right for villagers to fish the common waters within the Manor on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays still exists today.
• The largest Tithe Barn in the Country is situated in the Village, it was built in 1426.
• On April 12th 1586, Queen Elizabeth, granted in trust, a messuage (a dwelling and lands), to John Walton and John Cressett and their heirs and assigns forever. This still exists today and is called "The Sun House."
• In 1880, the Vicarage owned almost 200 acres of land around the village. The rents for these lands amounted to £1000 per annum.
• BAA now owns the land surrounding the Village. Is this the beginning of the end? How long will it be before the Villages of Harmondsworth, Sipson, Harlington and Longford disappear forever?
The co-ordinates above are for the Church of St Mary, where you can park your car and gather the clues for the final co-ordinates where the cache is located.
Near the entrance to the church yard there is a sign with the church name on it and a small plaque where the answers to the clues can be found.
