Chipperfield Common is a very popular spot for walkers, both 2 and
4-legged. During the summer the woods are very busy but fewer
people venture down to this part. I placed it in winter when leaf
cover was minimal but even so it was difficult to get a good
satellite lock. You should have fun when the trees are in full
leaf!
Penman's Green used to be a stop off point while driving the
sheep to market. You can still see a small pond used as a drinking
spot for the sheep at N 51°41.852', W0°29.779' There is a
small bench here where you can rest and also nearby in a clearing
at N 51°41.874', W0°29.932' Either would make a nice picnic
spot.
The cache is just off a footpath midway between the two. It is
in a typical cache hiding spot, well typical for me and will
involve a little bit of "ducking and diving" in the last few feet.
Nothing too strenuous though and certainly no fences to cross.
The best place to park is in the Church car park right by the
village green at N 51°42.203, W0°29.479' This has the
advantage of being close to the Two Brewers pub/restaurant and
overlooks the cricket pitch. The cache can be reached by taking any
of the myriad paths through the woods. Parking is also available in
Belsize at N 51°41.821', W0°30,237' (anybody seeking
Hornet's Hide 10 might welcome a short break here!)
The cache is a small tupperware style box so please keep swaps
small. As with most of my caches there are a number of very good
pubs nearby, any of the 4 within half a mile serve excellent food
and beer.
During wet weather beware of lots of mud in places due to this
being very "horsey" territory.
